NITHIN KOSHY JACOB

About
I work at the intersection of urban planning, architecture, and real-world implementation.
My focus is on how existing spaces, especially underused or overlooked ones, can be activated through small, practical interventions that create meaningful change over time.
Rather than proposing fixed solutions, I approach projects as evolving systems, where design, use, and context are continuously tested and refined.
What I Work With ?
My work focuses on adaptive reuse of existing buildings and spaces, along with small-scale spatial interventions and pilot projects developed within real-world constraints. I am particularly interested in socially and community-oriented spatial strategies that respond to everyday use.
I focus on translating ideas into testable, real-world scenarios, moving from concept to implementation in a structured and low-risk way.
Approach
I see many urban challenges not as a lack of resources, but as a lack of connection, activation, and continuity.
Rather than relying on large, predefined solutions, I focus on clarity before commitment, evidence before investment, and testing before scaling. This approach allows projects to develop through real use, reducing uncertainty and supporting better long-term decisions
Context Awareness
Urban development today often operates under pressure to improve everyday conditions, including safety, accessibility, and long-term sustainability, particularly in existing residential areas.
In these contexts, large-scale interventions are complex and carry significant uncertainty.
My work focuses on creating small-scale, testable interventions that provide early insight into how spaces function and how people engage with them, supporting more informed and confident decision-making
Background
I hold a Master’s degree in Architecture and Planning Beyond Sustainability from Chalmers University of Technology.
My master’s thesis in Hammarkullen, Gothenburg, explored how an abandoned basement space could be reactivated through a phased, small-scale intervention focused on both spatial and social use.
Prior to this, I founded Merak Projects, where I worked on residential and community-focused projects, including housing and restoration of culturally significant buildings.
Current Direction
I am currently based in Gothenburg and interested in contributing to projects that connect planning, design, and real-world implementation.
I am particularly interested in roles that work with existing urban conditions, bridge strategy and implementation, and involve the development and testing of real-world interventions.
